Town march into Cup Semi-Final with comprehensive win.

Barry Town Ladies travelled to Newport on Sunday to face South Wales Women's League Club, Villa Dino Christchurch in the Quarter-Finals of the South Wales FA Cup.

Following a bye in the previous round, Barry were looking to make a strong defence as the current cup holders following their success last season with Villa Dino looking to make an impression against higher level opposition.

The visitors made three changes to their starting line-up with a number of players unavailable and manager, Luke Williams looking to rotate his squad to give opportunities to other members of the first team squad. Taylor Page made her first start of the season with Alicia Cox and Daisy Evan-Watkins returning to the starting line-up.

Barry made a confident start and took an early lead after just 4 minutes with a well worked goal. Some great build up play in midfield and a through ball found Laura Saliba down the right and her cross-come shot looped over the goalkeeper into the far corner. Barry continued to dominate the ball but the host grabbed an equaliser when a lofted ball went over the Barry defence and the on rushing striker converted to make it 1-1 after 12 minutes.

The goal however didn't deter Barry and it took just two minutes to see the Dragons go back into the lead when Daisy Evan-Watkins fired home on 14 minutes and then Sian Rees made it 3-1 soon after with a fantastic strike from 25 yards bending into the top corner.

The midfield unit of Alex Allen, Chelsea Deacon, Rees and Page were producing some excellent combinations with Saliba and Cox providing great width in the wing back roles as the visitors made full use of the pitch in cold conditions. Stand in Captain for the day, Holly Vowles went close with a header from a Page corner with Rees and Evan-Watkins going close again before Rees grabbed her second of the game capping off a fine move to make it 4-1 just before half time.

Barry continued to dominate in the second half with Rees and Evan-Watkins a constant threat throughout and by the end of the game both recorded their first senior hat-tricks for the club. Both players would add another two goals to their tally for the day with Rees finishing with a quadruple goal haul for the day.

Substitutes, Emma Cannon, Olivia Townsend and Harriet Hurrell making her first team debut, all entered the field during the second half with Cannon netting two goals to make the final score 10-1 to Barry who progress into the Semi-Finals. Credit to Villa Dino who continued to work hard throughout the game until the final whistle.

Barry now progress into the Semi-Finals of the South Wales FA Cup and manager Williams was pleased with the teams performance. "Our attitude today was excellent and we produced arguably our most convincing performance of the season. It was great to see us create lots of goal-scoring opportunities and see new partnerships working together. We kept the ball well, stuck to our principles and we are naturally delighted to be in the Semi-Finals."

The Ladies will now turn their attention back to the Welsh Women's League where they take on Penybont FC on Sunday.
