There was no way of predicting the outcome of this tense league match until the final quarter of the encounter , Beaufort held onto a lead of 7 points after 30 minutes when a fine solo effort from standoff Darrel Roper sliced through the home defence to make a touchdown under the posts .. But the lead did sit easy with the visitors although they were playing against a team that were propping up division. six Malpass were a heavier pack and the heavy conditions suited their game plan to out muscle their opponents in a series of mauls and drives supported by a decent kicking game . This kept Beauufort tied down in their own heartland.for long periods as Beaufort struggled in the scrummage finding it difficult under foot . But on the half hour they made a decisive break out of the stranglehold to get the only score in the first half ,
After the break some honest endeavour by the home side pack should have brought them a score but they were thrawted by a superb defence. By the end of third quarter they had run out of steam and there was no plan B for them to fall back on. Beaufort then notched up two tries in a ten minute spell in which they ruthlessly attacked Malpass from all parts of the park, Beaufort tended to over finess its options on occasions otherwise the try count would have been greater . Fullback Lewis Hodsun scored Beaufort's second , his fifteenth of the season and Kyle Purnell a third but Malpass held on to deny the visitors the bonus point try
