Eagles lose out on penalties

St. Neots beat Bedford on Pens

The Eagles fell at the first hurdle in the League Cup on Tuesday evening, as the side took Premier Division Central side St. Neots to a penalty shoot out.
With a much changed side from Saturday previous, Bedford took the lead twice, but were pegged back by their hosts. Connor Furlong opened the scoring in the ninth minute, with an excellent solo goal, as he went on a run down the left wing before cutting inside and putting a low shot across goal and into the net.
St. Neots equalised midway through the 2nd half, when Harry O’Malley tapped in from close range. Bedford regained the lead on 72 minutes when Dan Walker beat the offside trap to slot the ball home. Three minutes later, an unfortunate own goal from Cade Stephens-Abbey restored parity, as a shot rebounded off the post and hit the unfortunate defender, rebounding into the net.
The game ended 2-2 and went straight to penalties, but a couple of misses from Bedford allowed St Neots to win on pens 4-1.
The next game for Bedford is on Saturday 8th September in the Emirates FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round, as the side visit Bostik League Premier Division side Enfield Town. The game is a 3pm kick off.
