Bingham travelled to Amber Valley to face a big powerful pack who were seeking to bounce back after last seasons relegation
As expected Amber Valley's big pack dominated the game with Bingham putting in a spirited performance but ultimately giving away too much field position to allow Amber Valley forwards to score 6 of 8 tries
From the Kick off, Amber Valley exerted forward pressure but Bingham defended the line well from 2 early scrums before the inevitable push over came after 8 mins
Further good Bingham Defence kept the home team at bay until 20 minutes when a penalty gave Amber Valley a 10-0 lead
Jonathan Thomas made a nuisance of himself and charged down a clearance and recovered possession to allow Bingham spread the ball wide quickly for Chris Garrod to score in the corner
A penalty a piece brought the score to 13 - 8 before the Amber Valley fullback countered and got the ball out wide to score and convert 20 -8
Just on half-time further forward pressure told as Amber Valley rumbled over in the corner HT 25 - 8 and a disappointing score to concede
A penalty to Bingham and yellow to Amber valley for high tackling 25 - 11. Bingham then received a yellow after a series of warnings as we fought hard to defend the line.
2 quick pushover tries from lineouts pretty much killed the game but a glimmer of hope came after Bingham pressure forced errors and quick taps and Jonathan Thomas drove through. Matt Cumming added the conversion 37 - 18
Despite some terrific tackling from all and Ben Packer throwing himself into anything coming his way, the forward pressure eventually took its toll with several forced injury changes and 3 late tries for Amber Valley, 2 coming from close range scrums.
Probably one of the biggest packs we will face this season and a need to regroup, recover & assess injuries before our next outing but some good skills evident from a paucity of possession.
