Sutton make it three from three!

Maximum points away from home

The incessant high wind and heavy rain made this game on Almondsbury’s plateau pitch alongside the M4 a challenge, with good football being very difficult to create.

Adam Crooks, with a niggling injury, decided to sit this one out, his central defensive position being filled by Kai Long, alongside Sam Roberts, Nathan Rendell and George Thorne in front of keeper Josh Yakub.
The midfield of captain Jack Keen, Sam Downes, Corey Rawlings and Josh Dakwa, with Chris Hind and Mason Daggar in attack completed the starting eleven.

Sutton had a great chance to open the scoring after just 4 minutes, a mistake by the Almonds keeper and a defender presented Rawlings with an open goal, disappointingly missed with a shot wide of the right post.
After half an hour Daggar collected the ball just inside the Almonds half, embarking on a surging run and finishing with a powerful accurate shot into the right corner of the net.
Three minutes later Dakwa produced a good run and centre from the right, finding Rawlings in front of goal whose shot flew over the bar.
Sutton were now playing well, Hind shot narrowly wide on 37 minutes.
A minute later a Downes corner from the right was well met by Daggar whose powerful header flew in.
On 41 minutes Almondsbury were awarded a penalty which was clinically converted.

Half Time Almondsbury 1 Bishop Sutton 2

Five minutes into the half, Daggar, with great persistence, won the ball in the left corner and centred for Hind to net with an strong accurate shot.
A minute later an Almonds corner from the right evaded the defence allowing a headed goal.
Sutton now had the advantage of a strong following wind, Almondsbury finding it difficult to break upfield.
All three subs were played in the 71st, 78th and 88th minutes, Dakwa, Hind and Rawlings giving way to Callum Hinder, James Pool and Jem Douglas.

Sutton’s Man of the Match, Mason Daggar, for a strong and impressive centre forward display including two goals.
This win elevates us to fourth spot, the highest we’ve been for several seasons.
We go to Oldland Abbotonians on Saturday the 16th to face our last season’s management team together with a number of our ‘old boys’.
