Right from the kick off, Brigg were on the offensive winning four early free kicks from the uncompromising visitors.

Unfortunately balls played into the penalty area from Paul Grimes, Chas Fisher, Josh Davies and Liam Davis were all well defended and came to nothing.

Chasetown’s first attack resulted in a left wing corner kick but Lee Butler’s in-swinging delivery was too long and went out beyond the far post.

Brigg continued to have most possession of the ball and looked dangerous down the left wing where Danny Buttle was able to send crosses over into the penalty area but goalkeeper Ryan Price was not really troubled.

Chasetown’s only shot at goal in the first half was a weak effort from Andrew Westwood who got forward into the Brigg area to turn on the ball and strike it wide of the upright.

The second half began with another free kick from a central position by Paul Grimes but this was safely held by Ryan Price

Five minutes into the half, Chasetown had Lee Butler sent off the field of play after a fracas on the touch line and then Christopher Slater was cautioned for a late tackle.

Liam Davis began to make threatening runs at the away defenders but was harshly cautioned for diving after being tripped inside the penalty area. Another free kick from Liam Davis sailed over the cross bar whilst at the other end of the pitch, Chas Fisher lost possession of the ball allowing Paul Sullivan a clear run at goal but he chipped the ball over the bar from a short distance out.

Paul Grimes’ strike at goal from a free kick outside the box was safely held by Ryan Price. Then Bruno Holden got the ball into the back of the net but the ‘goal’ was disallowed after the referee’s assistant ruled an off side decision in the build up play.

Chasetown continued to defend resolutely but then scored the only goal of the game seven minutes from time. Chas Fisher conceded a corner kick on the right wing and Rob Zand failed to clear the ball from the long cross into the area and it fell nicely for NICHOLAS WELLECOMME to strike a firm shot into the back of the net.

Brigg continued to push forward for the remaining minutes but never tested Ryan Price and allowed the visitors to take the three points to keep them in with a chance of the play offs

The season closes next Saturday afternoon with a home game against Market Drayton Town.

Brigg team - Rob Zand, Paul Ashton, Mark Dudley, Josh Davies, Oliver Fisher, Martyn Gee, Liam Davis, Ryan Paczkowski, Bruno Holden, Paul Grimes, Danny Buttle (No substitutes used)
