Harpers Day 2017

By Buckingham Rugby

THE OUTCOME....

Despite the wet and miserable weather the crowds were still drawn to Floyd Field on Saturday 30th December for the annual Harpers Day Charity Tournament. The net result was a fantastic £3,745 and with the club rounding that up to £4,000 it means the nominated charities receive equal shares of £1,000 each.

This years recipients will be:

Mayor's Charities. Each successive Buckingham Mayor selects one or more charities that he askes the town to support. Our incumbent Mayor, Jon Harvey, is supporting Buckingham Youth Centre, Unicef, NSPCC.

ForCrohns. Crohns is a little understood, very under-funded, and often debilitating disease and BRUFC have a small number of members who are lifelong sufferers.

YC2 - Buckingham and Winslow Young Carers. A local cause that supports youngsters who care for parents and siblings who have a range of physical or mental health conditions. Some of these young people provide care to those with terminal illnesses, parents with alcohol or drugs dependency or learning disabilities or perhaps chronic debilitating illnesses.

Kirk Nokes Memorial Fund. We continue to support the memorial fund as a means of giving something back to young players and as a reminder of road safety/awareness.

Huge thanks to the players and spectators and everyone that helped on the day. A special thanks should go to Jim Mackway who planned and organised the whole event and turned up for (some) of the cleaning duties the following morning. Well done Jimmy, you make us proud. Also a shout out to Ganny who supplied some of the BBQ fodder and Simon Smith for locking up after midnight.
