Strong Performance

The match was preceded by the Northampton and District ball of the month presentation which was accepted by coach Andy White and captain Jamie Temple acknowledging Buckingham's December 100% record.
There were changes to the published team sheets with Matt Warren coming in at lock for Euan Prime who moved to flanker to replace the injured Pat Ockenden. Aylesbury too made a couple of changes with James Bell switched from stand off to centre and Scott McKenzie moving in the opposite direction.
Buckingham kicked off attempting to make it five wins in a row against Aylesbury and immediately applied pressure which almost resulted in an early try as they drove over the line, but the ball was held up by the opposition forwards. Continued Buckingham pressure then resulted in a penalty being awarded for Joe Chalmers being taken out without the ball and Jak Cluness stepped up to slot the ball between the posts.
The flow of play then turned in Aylesbury's favour with James Woodcock their fullback penetrating the defence with a good run, only to be stopped by an excellent tackle from Euan Prime. In the ensuing ruck Buckingham conceded a penalty for coming in at the side and a good touch kick forced a line out in the corner to put Aylesbury in a strong attacking position. However, a huge turnover steal by Phil Wright allowed the defending side to regain possession and clear their lines. After this early period of Aylesbury pressure the home team then reversed the flow forcing Aylesbury to play the game deep in their own half.Four penalties were conceded in quick succession and when they were penalised for not being ten metres, Buckingham opted to take a scrum. After winning the ball they spun the ball wide with Harry Scarr scoring an excellently worked try, which went unconverted.
Aylesbury were now losing the territorial battle and were pinned in their own half until a good clearance took them field 30 metres. Buckingham immediately thwarted any hope of Aylesbury gaining ground with the line throw being stolen by Will Cooper which led to another try for Joe Kayla which was successfully converted. Just before half time the Aylesbury fly half was yellow carded leaving the half time score at 20-0 to Buckingham.
Aylesbury kicked off the second half and attacked from the off with their centre cutting inside Max Nagy and making a good 25 metre break. For a while the tides turned with Aylesbury mounting some good attacks and breaching the gain line, forcing Buckingham to defend. However this was reversed when a good line out win allowed Euan Prime to break through for a try wide out which was not converted.
Play then dug in the middle of the pitch with some very evenly matched mauling from both sets of forwards and once gain the Aylesbury centre who looked threatening all day made a superb break feeding his winger Sam Page who took his opportunity well and scored in the corner.
With the score now 25-5, Aylesbury gained in confidence and launched a wave of attacks until Buckingham were awarded a penalty which they opted to run, breaking out of defence and creating a two man overlap with the blind side winger coming into the line. A well timed tackle by the Aylesbury centre halted the attack when Buckingham attempted to step inside rather than spread the ball wide.
After this Buckingham retained control of the game and after a period of possession Jak Cluness scored a try which he converted himself to leave the full time score at 32-5 to the home side.
