On a fine but dry October day, our U14 girls had a training match against Grange Hockey Club U14 at MES. The match was 11 a side on a full pitch, and proved to be an extremely useful training exercise for both teams, while also allowing the coaches to have a look at the girls skills and areas for improvement.
While there was lots of nervous chatting and energy in the changing room before the match, the Edinburgh Hockey Club girls got it together on the pitch and proved that they had listened to the guidance and instructions of their coaches. The game was played as 4 15 minute quarters, with the coaches offering feedback and coaching advice in between.
Throughout the 4 quarters, the girls worked the ball really well and made some fantastic passes. Grange had a very strong start, but our defense and keeper worked hard to ensure no goals were conceded. The girls kep their composure on the ball and continued to play the type of hockey that they had been asked to play, and it paid off with them eventually winning 4-0. Goals came from Ava, Rebecca and Poppy.
A huge thanks to all involved, but special call out to the coaches Ian Chapman and Sharon Henderson for giving up their Sunday afternoon, and providing amazing and supportive coaching and guidance to the girls and to Heather Elder for umpiring. Also thanks to Grange Hockey Club for greater competition than the final score suggests.
