Match report from Martin Symons.
Camborne played some of their best attacking rugby of the season to run in seven tries in a comprehensive victory over their visitors from Bristol.
In splendid conditions at the Recreation Ground ‘Town’ gave young Andrius Zachorovas a start at prop whilst stalwart Martin Woolcock came into the back row.
Avonmouth were first on the scoreboard with a 2nd minute try from Joe Wearne which the scrum half also converted. The same player added a brace of 1st quarter penalties after David Mankee had opened the home account with a penalty for 3-13.
Though facing the slope the Cherry & Whites then hit top gear to add 15 points in a ten minute purple patch before half time. First scrum half Taron Peacock took a quick tap penalty to send industrious lock Tony Whittle plunging over. Soon after fly half Mankee ran
a loop move and full back Gareth Mankee fed on to Alex Ducker who cut inside from the left flank to dot down.
As the interval neared following a sustained spell of pressure Cameron Bone added the 3rd home try taking a good angle to the turns
tile corner flag for an 18-13 advantage at the break.
Almost from the restart the home side duly bagged the bonus point try when the forwards drove from a line out and from close range
centre Grant Thirlby put skipper Steve Kenward in enough space to crash over near the posts. Mankee booted the conversion and then added a 51st minute penalty to put his team out of sight at 28-13.
On the hour wing Ducker ran on to a chip ahead to touch down and Mankee added the extras superbly from the touchline. Flanker B
one then completed his brace of touchdowns after Ducker again made good ground, before inside the last 10 minutes the spirited vis
itors gained some consolation with an unconverted try.
In stoppage time and with Avonmouth attacking Ducker picked off a pass and raced the length of the field to collect his hat trick score and Mankee added the regulation conversion to wrap things up.
