On a cold morning, some team members didn't anticipate playing, given that the pitch was frosted over. However, with a sniff of sun, the surface was playable.
With a big squad and even some spectators (one of whom proved to be exceptionally handy!!), it was excellent to see the return of some Nomads 'greats' - like Barry and Wattsy.
Matty V gave the team a tactical session before push back on 4-3-3 formation - big thanks for that, Matty.) This proved to be essential to Nomads' reset in the second half of the season.
In general, Nomads controlled the game, making South's attack heavy labour.
Nomads' first goal came from a pass from Gianluca on 23m line to Arthur who managed to get the end of stick on it and the ball slithered to Angus in the D. Off the end of his toes, he managed to scoop it goal-bound. Hurrah!
Archie nearly had a goal with his very first touch of the ball but couldn't get his stick on the end of a cross at the back post. And Arthur lashed a reverse stick shot wide.
After half time, South managed to squeeze the ball along the base line to a striker on the P spot who shovelled it in.
Gianluca's first goal for the Twos was a strike virtually along the back line. And it went in! Well done!
Final result a 2-1 win. And the formation was deemed a success.
Man of the match undoubtedly goes to Mike Longson Snr for subbing in as goalie for 15 mins before John arrived, due to a scheduling 'fake news' incident earlier in the week. He saved a series of shots and faced short corner. Classic comment from Mike: "Oh, I'd forgotten you could kick it!"
