Chasetown rang the changes ahead of their cup final on Wednesday and went behind within the first ten minutes when Evan Garnett whipped the ball across to Ruben Wiggins-Thomas who tapped in from close range.
The Scholars levelled in the 34th minute when a cross was chipped up by Ryan Wynter and Matt Gardner headed home from 6 yards for his first goal for the club.
Gardner made a dream start to the second half. Peter Till crossed for Gardner whose looped header evaded goalkeeper Mark Rathbone.
The visitors extended their lead in the 65th minute with a phenomenal long range effort from Jack Langston that left Rathbone clutching at thin air.
Belper reduced the deficit with a Jonathan Williams shot which crawled along the ground through a sea of legs leaving Curtis Pond only able to watch on.
Michael Wright almost added a fourth in stoppage time but Rathbone stretched out a leg to kick away at his near post.
Belper equalised in the sixth minute of stoppage time with Wiggins-Thomas netting a controversial late equaliser with everyone questioning the amount of stoppage time.
