Kick off was delayed by Cleethorpes stuck in traffic and Chasetown almost scored in the first minute. A break down the right saw Will Whieldon fire narrowly wide of the upright.
Clearcut goal chances were few and far between and skipper Jack Langston tried to place a shot past keeper David Birch but didn't quite get enough purchase on the effort.
The hosts had the better of the possession and were a whisker away from taking the lead in first half stoppage time as Jake Lovatt shot into the side netting.
On the hour, Chasetown finally broke through. Leading scorer Muzzy Nduna raced onto a through ball and reached it ahead of keeper Birch and defender Mark Gray before firing high into an empty net.
Nduna picked up an injury in doing so and was carried off on a stretcher while Birch also received treatment.
Lovatt flashed an effort over the bar as the hosts tried to press home their advantage.
Chris Baker saw an effort squirm through Birch’s grasp as the game entered its dying minutes before the visitors scored with the last kick of the game as Gray turned home a free kick.
