Chew Valley closed the gap on second placed Old Bristolians to one point with a win at home despite losing scrum half Alex Cameron before half time.
Bristolians did their cause no good with poor discipline which meant they played 30 minutes of the game with 14 men when three players including No 8 Sean Makin and prop Joe Worsley spent time n the bin for repeated offences at the breakdown.
Chew Valley could have kept the scoreboard ticking over with kickable pwnalties but chose to go for the corner on five occasions but inaccuracy at the lineouts and in midfield could have cost them.
The hosts were on the scoreboard with a Dan Gatton show and go try with Makin off the park on 17 minutes, converted by Cameron and fhey had most of the territory until a rare foray into the home 22 led to a try for flanker Doug Walters just before half time and with centre Jack Price converting it was all square at the break.
With Chew Valley unable to convert chances, Walters had the chance to nose his side in front but missed a penalty on 48 minutes.
Chew Valley pressure yielded a try for replacement flanker Ali Russell on 65 minutes conveerted by Tom Bryan who had moved fo 10 with Gatton replacing Cameron at scrum half despite playing most of the second half on one leg. A Bryan penalty from 30 metres gave his side breathing space on 68 minutes and with Old Bristolians throwing everything at the hosts defence was key. A crossfeild kick to the corner was fielded by winger Simon Hunt to cross in the corner. The conversion was missed and Bryan try on 73 minutes after a midfield fumble created the half gap he needed fo make the game safe.
