Chippenham U13 Girls lay down a marker

Chippenham U13 Girls gathered at Chipping Sodbury RFC who hosted the festival with 6 teams in total after a few clubs joined together to make it a 12 a side, as we only had 8 players Broadplain joined us to make our 12. We did not have enough shirts with us so we played in Broadplain colours but at the end of the day its all about the girls rugby. It was going to be a long day but the coaches and supporters/parents were going to be treat to some sublime rugby. Chippenham would have to work hard in every game but the girls natural talent and never give up mentality would see them through. Throughout the afternoon Chippenham showed fantastic team play be it in support with great running lines or as a solid defence which was near on unbreakable and massive tackles going in to stop an attack in it's tracks. There was some great individual performances from all the girls with moves that would make any rugby player proud.

It was also great to see the Broadplain girls grow in confidence as the games progressed. They all did well but if I had to pick 2 out it would be Kamilla wearing No 12 who was like a rampaging bull and Frankie wearing No 4 who was speeding about the pitch. Both being rewarded with tries.
The girls yet again treated the coaches and parents to fantastic rugby with balls down the line, switches, aggressive rucking and mauling and the tackling was first class especially the try saving ones. Also the scrum was brilliant considering this was the first time they did 5 person scrums. Playing with their heads up and brilliant vision reading the game amazingly with break away tries, the players were on fire and even with a few knocks would not let their team mates down. These girls most certainly have a bright future and I have no doubt they will move up to County level with ease.

As the light faded and the last game was played Chippenham were victorious beating all comers and coming out on top as winners. There were no medals or a cup. There will be 13 very tired girls who will be sleeping well tonight.

Thank you girls yet again for the show you put on and you should be justifiably proud of yourselves because we all are. You are a credit to the club flying the flag high for girls rugby. Well done.
