Chiefs bounce back in style

By

Chippenham put last weeks disappointment behind them to poke the hornets nest and over power Western.

With last weeks disappointing performance fresh in the memory and the match reporter no longer sulking, Chippenham put in their most complete performance of the season. Combining an excellent power game from the forwards with some sublime handling from the backs to overwhelm the Hornets all across the field. Having spent training on Friday working on the contact area and intensity in the ruck, it was a real pleasure for the coaches to see all the chiefs committing to the breakdown with real purpose and determination. With the referee allowing for a fair contest at the breakdown the Chippenham forwards started to dominate and provide the dangerous backs, quick front foot ball allowing them to exploit the gaps in the Hornets defence.
Having failed to beat the hornets over the past three seasons, Chippenham’s coaches and players were rightly chuffed with the final result and more importantly the performance. With everything they needed to work on following last weeks performance being shown by all the players, physical in the contact area and more clynical with the running game. Try of the match came from Callum A, the Chiefs were defending deep in their own 22 when a solid hit by Ollie A and a fantastic counter ruck by the rest of the pack provided turnover ball for the backs to exploit. Lovely hands and lines of running from the entire back line provided a gap for James L to run into from full back, James drew the winger and put Callum into space. He still had a lot of work to do and over half the pitch to cover. Showing great pace he managed to squeeze over in the corner, holding off the attention of the full back.
