Cleethorpes Town under 18's Win the Steve Asher Cup

Plenty of promise for the future

Cleethorpes Town Sunday under 18's met Lincoln United under 18's at Bradley on Sunday in the final of the Steve Asher Cup.

The game saw both sides give it there all in a game that was enjoyed by supporters of both present and it was Lincoln United who broke the deadlock scoring 10 minutes before half time, a goal that was against the run of play.

The second half saw the same intensity as Cleethorpes were commanding possession as the deservedly leveled the scores as Jordan Potts scored. Cleethorpes were playing with intelligence as the game was very competitive.

Cleethorpes then scored with the move of the match as the ball was swept out wide before the ball came into the box as Charlie Parks to head home from 6 yards out. Cleethorpes then saw out the final minutes to lift the trophy.

By winning the trophy Cleethorpes lifted the Lincolnshire Intermediate football leagues premier trophy for 2 years running. A great achievement to the management team of under 18's of Tommy, Darren and Howard.

Today's team were the majority of the team where playing their first season in under 18 football as the future looks good for all.

The club wishes to thank the supporters who attended the game and thanks to the first teams David Smith who attended the game, with former first team coach Matthew Powell.

Powell commented after the game "It was a very competitive game, the lads showed great skill, desire and game management to come back and lift the trophy".
