Owls to host two special events for Armed Forces Day 2016

Cleethorpes Town is delighted to announce that on Saturday 18th June a Cleethorpes Town Select XI will host two Armed Forces matches with the Army Football Women’s and Men’s First Teams both playing at the Linden Homes Club.

Both games will be played on the same day, with the Women kicking off at 12:45pm and the Men at 3:00pm, with free admission for all. This special day is to coincide with Armed Forces Week when the celebrations begin as the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings and famous landmarks around the country.

Armed Forces Day is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets. Cleethorpes has been selected to host the National event and other local events will be taking place across the country.

Cleethorpes Town Chairman David Patterson said, “The event will showcase not only the re-generation of the Linden Homes Club with it’s new in-progress stadium but with the Armed Forces Day National Event being held in Cleethorpes it will put the local region on the map.”

Cleethorpes Town Vice-Chairman David Mann added, “It is a very prestigious event for the area and we are very much looking forward to being involved. We were first approached last year by the MOD to see if we would host the two matches and took no time in accepting their fantastic offer.”

He added, “There will be stalls, attractions, a BBQ, a beer tent and much more which will all encapsulate the spirit of Armed Forces Day. We are delighted to work with the North East Lincolnshire Council and the MOD to celebrate this fantastic week.”
