By

By Tony Merrett assisted by Dave Wright

At the third time of asking Clevedon made the trip to Ironmould Lane to face Brislington and unable to field any Under 18 players due to their Cup semi-final the following evening they slipped to a 2-0 defeat on a difficult playing surface.

Clevedon created a good opportunity in the 1st minute when they won a corner on the right which Joe Hance swung into the box where captain Kevin Camargo sent his header wide of the far post.

On 10 minutes the ball was played wide left to Jake Harris who cut the ball back into Isaac Reid on the edge of the box whose left-foot volley went wide of the far post.

Clevedon had to be thankful to Sam Burgess who put in a Man of the Match performance with two excellent one-on-one saves in quick succession. In the 23rd minute a long ball was played through for James Batchelor whose shot was well held by the Clevedon keeper and a minute later the same player cut in from the right before unleashing a fierce shot which Sam pushed wide of the far post.

Clevedon’s best chance came on 28 minutes. Isaac Reid made progress down the right before crossing to the far post where Jake Harris’s attempted shot was blocked and the ball ran to Joe Hance who spotted Brislington keeper Liam May off his line and attempted to chip the ball over him but unfortunately it smashed against the crossbar and rebounded to safety.

Clevedon were made to pay for not taking their chances when Brislington took the lead in the 37th minute. A corner from the left found skipper Jason Hughes unmarked at the back post and he powered his header home to give Sam Burgess no chance and make the score 1-0.

Brislington were quickly out of the blocks at the start of the second half. On 47 minutes former Seasider Niekel Plummer cut in from the left before firing the ball over the bar.

Clevedon had to be thankful to Kaine Gazzard in the 55th minute when James Batchelor broke clear and his shot was cleared off the line by the Clevedon man.

Although Clevedon were creating chances they weren’t putting any pressure on keeper Liam May. On 64 minutes Kevin Camargo played the ball into the box where Isaac Reid turned and shot wide.

In the 75th minute Toby Yeates played a great ball through for Isaac Reid but his shot was straight at Liam May who saved easily.

On 77 minutes Toby Yeates played a 1-2 with Joe Hance before seeing his shot pushed wide by Liam May.

In the 78th minute Jake Harris cut in from the left before seeing his shot go wide.

On 82 minutes Toby Yeates played the ball through for Isaac Reid to advance into the box but unfortunately the ball bobbled just as Isaac attempted to cross it and the ball floated harmlessly away.

Brislington doubled their lead in the 88th minute in controversial circumstances. The ball was played through to Alex Lambert who looked yards offside and he even had time to stop and look at the Assistant Referee before taking the ball around Sam Burgess and rather sheepishly knocking the ball into the empty net to make the final score 2-0.
