Doughboys bring Cooks back down to earth.
Wellingborough Town send Cogenhoe crashing in their opening league fixture.
Thursday 13th September 2018
NORTHANTS SENIOR YOUTH LEAGUE-WEST DIVISION
COGENHOE UNITED U18 (0) 0 v WELLINGBOROUGH TOWN U18 (1) 3
The Cooks were 1 -0 down at half time thanks to a well taken goal from Connor I’Anson after 15 minutes. His pace took him past his man to get inside the right of the box and he slipped the ball past the outcoming Zach Cunningham to score from a narrow angle. We did hit the post before that goal when Ed Noy ghosted in to meet Tom Iaciofano’s free-kick deep inside the area, but his glancing header hit the outside of the post and out for a goal-kick
The Cooks were punished from an early Wellingborough free kick within a minute of the second half starting as sub Ezio Touray nipped in past a static defence to head home Dan Owen’s left-wing free-kick to make it 2-0 to Wellingborough.
The third goal came on 53 minutes when Touray acrobatically netted at the far post from Callum Harley’s corner to end any realistic dreams of getting anything from this opening league fixture. Cunningham made a few saves after this but we never really tested Sam Curtis at the other end in a night to forget for the young Cooks.
Daz Long ‘We weren’t really at the races today and it was a disappointing result as we have played so well in the last few games, we just didn't create enough chances tonight, Wellingborough wanted it more and deserved the win. Hopefully we will bounce back Monday when we play Corby Town on the FA Youth Cup at Steel Park”.

A very strong performance from Wellingborough Town and I echo Darren’s comments that they thoroughly deserved the points tonight. Cogenhoe are much better than tonight’s performance, but the Doughboy’s didn’t allow us an inch through out the game. We will learn from this and move on to Corby and beyond with lessons learned.
Good luck to Daz, Chris and the boys at Corby on Monday and hopefully the gaffer will be sending his usual report back from that one.
