COGENHOE UNITED U18 (1) 3 v NORTHAMPTON TOWN ACADEMY (0) 0
Iaciofano 79, 89
First 10 mins cobblers were causing lots of problems with their movement off the ball creating 2v1s down the channels against our fullbacks, but the attacks all came to nothing ..15 mins. A ball played into Michael Solazzo’s feet on corner of the penalty area saw him display some great hold up play and lay it off to Joe Freeman who cut inside onto his left foot and found the top corner..21 mins. A great flick by Michael to Joe who puts a great cross in and Tom Iaciofano heads over..22 mins. A corner sees Tom with a free header but he puts it over ...27 mins. Cobblers fullback getting forward again and great cross finds no contact and as the visitors continue to press, the Cooks back four are defending well ..32. A free kick for the Cobblers 25 yards out goes straight at Zach Cunningham..33 mins. A counter attack sees great play by Jessi Obeng who sends in a low cross but the Cobblers clear.. 34 mins. A great long ball by Jack Mullally is met by a Solazzo header and forces great save out of the Cobblers keeper.. 35 mins. Cobblers come forward again and a shot is well saved by Zach...36 mins. Chance from a free kick for the Cobblers is wasted as it sails over..41 mins and more pressure from the Cobblers and great shot from 25 yards heading towards top corner when Zach makes a great save, even managing to hold the on to the ball.
At half time Reaf Morris comes off with cramp and is replaced by Mitch Roberts, while Tom drops to right back. Cobblers start the second half very strongly, always moving the ball around quick and creating space for their wide players, but again there is no end product with the Cooks defence, marshalled by Jack Mullally and Ben Foster defending superbly ..50 mins and another cross from wide by the visitors is claimed by Zach comes out and shows great hands ..52 mins Jack commits a foul but luckily the ensuing free kick flashes wide..56 min Ben comes off injured so Dylan goes to centre half Ebrahim Mohammed goes into midfield, Mitch goes right back and Tom wide left. More Cobblers pressure, but Harry, Joe and Ebbs are working hard to stop their midfield controlling the game..61 Cobblers break again but Zach comes racing out of the area, chests to ball down and clears. Great composure from the young keeper. More pressure from Cobblers great cross sees the Cogenhoe defence throwing themselves at the ball in the six yard box and then making 2 blocks from the corner before finally clearing their lines, although they were a bit lucky when a back pass by Joe is short, but Cobblers fluff the chance ..73 mins Jessi shows great speed down right and cuts in before firing a rocket of a shot that hits the underside of the bar and comes back out into play. Cogenhoe are growing in confidence though and on 77 mins some great one touch football between Tom and Michael finds Jessi but he's offside..79 mins great play by Michael who holds ball up and plays it through the Cobblers defence to the on running Tom Iaciofano who slots it past the goalie to make it 2-0..83 mins The Cobblers get a free kick and play it into the boxand their player has a free header. but he can only direct it wide...89 mins Cogenhoe break away and Michael holds the ball up nicely before laying it off to Tom Iaciofano who slots home a carbon copy of the second goal.
No stand out performance tonight but a great team effort from the lads who had to play a different way against strong opponents. Zach Cunningham showed great hands, young fullbacks Lucas Hartwell and Reaf Morris showed great attitude and got better as the game went on, Jack Mullally and Ben Foster were superb in the centre of the defence and when Dylan Weston had to drop in defence he too was superb. Harry Darnell and Joe Freeman worked tirelessly in midfield and in the second half especially, Michael Solazzo’s hold up play and lay-offs were great, setting up all 3 goals. Jessi Obeng got better when he moved to the right, causing problems with his pace and Tom Iaciofano showed great composure with both his goals. Both subs Ebbs Mohammed and Mitch Roberts got straight into the game and worked hard for the team with a great attitude.
