Academy Staff Announced for 2017/18 Campaign

As the club has developed over the years, as has the academy in our structure and number of coaches.

We are pleased to announce that for the second season running we have two coaches for every age of the club and now boast a total of ten FAW C License holders, ten UEFA B License holders and two UEFA A and FAW A Youth License holders in our academy coaching staff.

Coach development with the FAW Trust is and will always be vital to our coaching structure and we fully back the philosophy of Better Coaches, Better Players.

We are pleased to announce a total of four more coaches are attending the UEFA B License course this Summer and a further two looking to access the FAW A Youth License course also.

The academy will remain to be overseen by Director of Football Jay Catton who holds both the FAW A Youth license, UEFA A License and a BA (Hons) degree in Sports Coaching and Exercise Science.

The academy has now been split into three simple phases including:

Mini Phase – U8-U12
Youth Phase – U13-U16
Senior Phase – U18-U19

Leading each of these phases over seeing coaching, games programs and the direct link for all coaches and parents in these phases include:

Mini Phase – Leighton Sumner – U8-U12
Youth Phase – Iain Bennett – U13-U16
Senior Phase – Sean Regan – U18-U19

Leighton Sumner is a C License holder (doing B License this Summer 2017) and has been at the academy now for over seven years and has over seen a total of 11 Nomads Academy players moving onto professional clubs. He is also a scout for Liverpool Academy.

Iain Bennett is a FAW A Youth License holder who is also involved with our scholarship program and under 19s. Last season he also led Llandudno Junction as manager this to promotion to the Cymru Alliance.

Sean Regan is a UEFA B License holder who also holds BS (Hons) degree in Sports Science along with a PGCE and is a tutor at Coleg Cambria on the level 3 sport course as well as combining his head of senior phase.

Parents over the season are asked to speak directly to their age group specific coaches if any issues over the season. If a parent feels they would like further support they are asked to contact their relevant head of phases via e mail:

New Staff

The new members of staff joining the academy include under 8s coaches James Duff and Jamie Wynne. James joins us from Mynyddisa under 7s and was highlighted as a coach with a lot of potential at one of the clubs recent tournaments.

Jamie Wynne is an academy product who made over 30 appearances for the first team scoring three goals in the Welsh Cup and Welsh Premier. A C license holder, who also works in the clubs community section.

Anthony Gomez joins our under 9s alongside Craig Griffiths . Anthony joined Nomads Academy at the back end of last season and has already done some great work. He is currently studying a sports degree at Wrexham Glyndwyr and we hope he can bring lots from this course back to the academy to aid our players development.

In our youth set up we welcome Matt Griffiths who joins us to work alongside Dale Johnson with our under 14s side. Coming from Cefn Druids academy, Matt already has experience in the academy set up and is starting his UEFA B License this Summer also.

Specialist Staff

We are happy to announce Gemma Bamford will be remaining in her role as academy and first team head therapist, treating all academy players in need of treatment on Monday evenings starting from September.

Ed Harper will maintain his role of head of sports science at the academy and will be running all the fitness tests over the season for our youth and senior phase groups (6 for the year) and has also completed a fantastic six week off season plan for all players leading into the new season.

Our conditioning sessions over the season including Monday morning for academy scholars, Thursday afternoon for academy scholars as well as strength and conditioning sessions for our youth phase every Thursday evening from September will be taken by Lifestyle Fitness gym manager Lucy Harrison.

Lifestyle Fitness and Lucy will be another great addition for the football club and academy and we give a warm welcome to all Lifestyle Fitness staff who will be having involvement at the club.

Trevor Green will maintain his role as head of Child and Welfare ensuring all coaches have up to date DBS checks and aid any welfare issues their maybe.

Kevin Manley as well as coaching our under 18s will maintain his role as academy registrations administrator and will ensure all players registrations are completed to FAW correctly and aid with any issues such as international clearance.

A huge area of the football club, and always has been is our goalkeepers section.

Neil Ebbrell heads up our goalkeeping department alongside Ben Wynne who starts his full season as academy goalkeeper coach an head of our mini phase goalkeepers.

Both Neil and now Ben (who passed this season), hold the UEFA B Goalkeeping license and ensures we have one of the best goalkeeping departments in the North West of England and North Wales.

Age Group Coaches 2017-18 Season

Other changes at the club will see new assistant head of mini phase Gavin Bennett work alongside Ben Nash with our under 10s.

Ben Nash successfully passed his UEFA B license this year also so a big well done to Ben on this.

Jordan Parry who also completed the UEFA B course this Summer is now working with Jason Bell with next seasons under 11s.

Unfortunately we say goodbye to Chris Brooks who is away travelling Australia for a year. We wish him all the best and hopefully see him return for the 2018/19 campaign.

As part of our re structuring head of phases will now always be lead coaches for the oldest group of this phase. (Leighton Sumner U12, Iain Bennett U16 and Sean Regan U19).

Leighton Sumner will coach the under 12s along with Jordan Mapp Jones with both starting their UEFA B licenses this Summer.

Under 13s will be run again by long-term coach Danny Mapp Jones who is starting his FAW A Youth license this Summer working alongside Ben Nash.

Dale Johnson and Matt Griffiths will run our very strong under 14 side with both coaches also undertaking the UEFA B License this Summer.

Our under 15s will be coached by Anthony Weaver who passed his UEFA B License this season along with long standing Nomads Academy coach Mark Rowlands.

Our under 16s will be coached by Iain Bennett and Lee Woodward. Lee is also the head coach for our under 18s so this will allow good transition for future seasons from youth to senior phase.

Our Coleg Cambria scholars will be lead by Jay Catton, Sean Regan and Iain Bennett with our under 18s side coached by Kevin Manley and Lee Woodward with our under 19s coached by Iain Bennett and Sean Regan.
