Coventry Sphinx named Team of the Month

December’s fine run of results has been acknowledged by the Midland Football League with Coventry Sphinx named as the December Team of the Month for the MFL Premier Division. Some impressive results for Lee Knibbs side moved Coventry Sphinx into the title picture in December with the stand out result the 4-0 victory at League Leaders Ilkeston Town.
December began with a 4-1 win at Sphinx Drive against Highgate Utd with a Charlie Faulkner hat-trick the key factor in the victory. A league cup tie followed with Coventry Sphinx overcoming Coventry Utd on penalties to progress to the Quarter Finals of the League Cup. Sphinx then returned to League action and suffered their only defeat of the month at Lye Town. Sphinx recovered from that loss in style with a 4-0 thumping of Ilkeston Town in Derbyshire. Ryan Harkin with the “perfect” hat-trick led Sphinx to an emphatic win. Next up was the visit of Shepshed Dynamo to Sphinx Drive and Sphinx ended Shepshed’s 18 game unbeaten run with a 2-1 success thanks to goals from Harkin and Quirke. The Boxing Day derby was next and Sphinx returned with the points from the Butts Park Arena after a Matt Gardner strike. Another tough fixture followed but Sphinx were up to the task again and they completed the month with a 2-1 win against Boldmere St Michaels.
An excellent month for Lee Knibbs, his staff and his playing squad has been recognised by the Midland Football League so congratulations to all.
