COVENTRY SPHINX v BOLDMERE ST MICHAEL’S - PREVIEW

Coventry Sphinx begin their season on Saturday with a cup tie at Sphinx Drive. Before their Midland Football League Premier Division campaign gets underway they will compete in the Extra Preliminary Round of The Emirates FA Cup.

The visitors, Sutton Coldfield based Boldmere St Michael’s; play in the same division as Coventry Sphinx and just two points separated the clubs in last season’s final league table. To emphasise how closely matched the sides were last season, both league games ended in draws.

Over the summer, Coventry Sphinx have retained the management team of Stuart Dutton, Scott Furlong and Rich Webb and they have also retained the majority of the squad that secured a top ten finish including top scorer Ryan Harkin. Other important retentions include goalkeeper Scott Dutton, Captain Scott Lower and midfielder Callum Woodward. New signings have also added depth and more quality to the squad ahead of the season. The new signings include defenders Aaron Stringfellow and Louis Guest and midfielders Jean Dakouri and Tyson Knight. Saturday’s FA Cup tie will be the 11th successive season Coventry Sphinx have competed in the FA Cup. This tie will be the 32nd FA Cup match in our history and the tie will also be the first time we have met Boldmere St Michael’s in this prestigious competition.

The match will kick off at 3pm at our Sphinx Drive home which is situated in the Stoke area of Coventry. We are just off the Binley Road, a short walk from the Bulls Head Pub. Admission prices at the turnstile are Adults £6, Concessions £4 and Under 16’s are admitted free of charge. Free parking is available on site and full bar facilities will be open all day.

A colour match day programme will be available to purchase inside the ground where you will also find a pitch side café serving drinks and snacks. Also available at the “Sphinx Shed” will be a range of Official club merchandise such as pin badges, hats and mugs. We also have a brand new range of Coventry Sphinx key rings in addition to a new design of scarf. The previous stock of club scarves sold out last season so we are pleased to offer a new design of our popular scarves.

The colour programme is packed full of original content including news, features and some excellent columnists alongside the usual match details and squads. Available for just £1.50 from the “Sphinx Shed”.
