Berffro five star performance as they dispatch of Mochdre

By

4 league wins on the bounce

Yesterday it was a return to action following a frustrating postponement last week as the bad weather left the Cae Cynlas pitch unplayable and the home fixture against Felinheli subsequently postponed. Despite the heavy overnight rain the pitch was looking in decent condition and there was no doubt this game would be played as we hosted Mochdre Sports with the incentive of a win taking us above our opponents in the league. Both sides had met previously in the league back in November, a bad day at the office for us resulting in a 6-2 thumping and we were keen to avenge that defeat yesterday and we did exactly that.

On a heavy and in parts bobbly surface, the game started off with neither side gaining a real foothold in the game but during the early exchanges it appeared as though it was Berffro who had the upper hand as we were sharper into the midfield battles and picked up the second balls with Connor, Matty and Gaz Wyn all working hard early on to deny the visitors the chance to settle into any sort of rhythm. The first real chance of note came from a set piece with twenty minutes on the clock as a Gaz Wyn free kick was begging for someone to get a touch on it but it evaded everyone and just crept wide. Moments later a strong run from right back put Andrew in a good shooting position but he could only drag his effort wide of the far post but the warning signs were there for the visitors. It wasn't long before we had the opener that our play deserved, Harper won possession down the right and cut inside past his marker, before finding Gaz Wyn in acres of space 25 yards out of goal, he took a touch to settle himself before striking low towards goal, his effort touch a deflection and spun way from the keeper and just inside the near post to put us 1 up. Not content with just the one, we pressed for more with Nath Moore proving a handful for the Mochdre centre halves who were forced into countless errors and rushed clearances. Nath's hard work gave him an opportunity to double the lead when he won a free kick for himself some 30 yards out, however his free kick was punched clear be the visitors keeper who felt it too difficult to try and gather the effort. Mochdre's physical presence kept the Berffro back line on their toes throughout the half but little troubled Gav in goal with the back four well marshalled by Iwan and Jenks who kept the lively number 9 quiet for much of the opening 45. One particular moment looked to threaten the Beffro goal however some superb covering from left back Rich Pdoing snuffed out any danger. The tireless running of Gary Bolton down the left hand side was proving to be a nuisance for the Mochdre defence along with Nath's clever play and Gary had a chance from distance to make it 2-0 after their keeper was forced into a hurried clearance, however the visitors captain was able to get back and ensure Gary's effort on goal was dealt with. Just before the break there were further half chances for Matty, who did well to cut in on his left but his shot was well blocked, and then Connor, who picked up a loose ball from a Harper corner, but his effort, after also cutting in on his left was well defended and so the score remained 1-0 at half time.

The message at the break was to continue with the same tempo and to keep forcing their back four under pressure as we were slightly frustrated to only go in 1-0 up.

It didnt take us long after the break to deservedly double our advantage with a goal of real quality. A long kick from Gav was flicked on by Harper which found Nath in space, he took on his opponent down the right channel before skillfully chopping the ball back onto his favoured left foot and delivered a wicked cross into the box where the fox in the box Gary Bolton stooped low and guided a flying diving header goal-wards which flew past the keeper giving him no chance. Our dominance in the game continued, Nath went close after cutting back onto his left foot again but his curling effort just didn't have enough whip on it and it strayed wide of the far post and then Connor challenged well at the far post from a long free kick but the visitors keeper got luck and picked up the loose ball bouncing around the box. The visitors tried and tried to find a way back into the game but Gav was immense dealing with the aerial balls into his penalty area and when any half chances were presented to them, Jenks and Iwan were on hand covering well along with Rich Pdoing whose reading of any danger in and around the box was superb throughout, not giving his opponent a sniff. A third goal didnt appear to be far off and it seemed ike it was game over just after the hour mark, Connor played a driving searching ball down the left channel which the evergreen Bolton wasn't about to give up on, he got there and beat the full back with a brilliant piece of play, only for the full back to hack him down cynically just inside the box. Up stepped Nath who dispatched from 12 yards to make it 3-0. For a period after our third we seemed to ease off slightly and Mochdre sensed this and started to create a few more clear cut chances, the lively number 9, for once managed to find some space but screwed his effort wide when one on one with Gav and moment later they found a way back in as their number 8 was allowed a free header from a corner and made no mistake from 6 yards out. In games gone by this would signal a nervousness about us after being pegged back but not yesterday as 3-1 quickly became 4-1 as almost straight from the kick off Gaz Wyn ran through from midfield and although the initial chance looked to have gone, he regained possession and fed a delightful ball through to Nath who took a touch and buried a right footed effort beyond the reach of the keeper. With 10 minutes remaining the front man was denied a deserved hatrick in a bizarre moment, clean through on goal his first effort was thwarted by the keeper but he picked up the loose ball and ran towards an empty net ready to tap in for his 3rd, but from nowhere a Mochdre defender got a slight foot in with the ball diverting square across the face of goal leaving substitute Adam Hallybone with the simplest of tap ins with one of his first touches since entering the fray on his long awaited return. We pushed on for a sixth, Rich Pdoing went on a marauding run down the left and found Connor square of him on the edge of the box but the midfielder's effort flew over the bar. There was still time for a seventh goal in the game, and it fell to the visitors who picked up a consolation goal with minutes before full time, leaving the final score 5-2. Man of the Match Nath Moore.

Yesterday was a well deserved 3 points for us against real tough opposition in Mochdre who had put us to the sword only 2 months ago in a 6-2 drubbing. We've come along way since then as a club and yesterday was our 4th win in 4 in the league and our 6th in 7 games as we move up to 10th in the league. Some real standout performances once again yesterday, Nath Moore up top showed real class throughout and deserved a hatrick only to be denied in bizzare fashion, Jenks and Iwan were solid at the back once again as they continue their impressive partnership at the back and were ably backed on the flanks by Rich and Andrew who gave their opposing wingers little chance to get going in the game. Just in front of them, Connor showed great discipline in the holding role and dominated aerially against a very good opponent in Mochre's number 8. All in all a very good team performance, a tireless display and another 5 goals making it 10 in our last 2 games. Next week we go again with another vital 3 points on offer as we make the short trip to Llanfairpwll.
