Llangoed to Strong
By Simon Jones
Llangoed defeat
Today’s match began with a minutes silence for former Bontnewydd stalwart Gareth Williams who tragically passed away last week. Bontnewydd started brightly with good possession but little in the way of clean cut chances, Llangoed then scored after thirteen minutes against the run of play when Wayne Thomas netted the opener. Llion Roberts then doubled the lead five minutes later when the home defence failed to deal with speculative long ball.
The home side then rallied briefly with
Cai Penny Williams looking the likeliest to reduce the arrears as the score at the interval remained at 0-2. With Llangoed having failed to capitalise on their supremacy in the first half it was Bontnewydd who went close after the re-start with Sion Ynyr Thomas heading wide at the far post. However from the resulting goal kick the visitors went straight up field and added to the score line when Carwyn Williams made it 3-0 on 46 minutes.
The young Bontnewydd side struggled to recreate the passing game that saw them beat Nefyn last week and the introduction of midfielder Ellis Thomas seemed to improve things but Llangoed were stronger in the tackle thru ought the game and their more experienced players snuffed out any threats. On the hour Wayne Thomas scored the goal of the match when weaving his way past three defenders to finish and claim a brace.
With the scores at 4-0 Bontnewydd threw players forward and player manager
Ian Pleming went close with a header from six yards out, at the other end Llangoed substitute Nathaniel Evans cleverly lobbed home keeper
Sion Davies from just inside the box to make it 5-0 before Bont striker
Cai Penny Williams was rewarded for his persistence scoring his third goal in as many games.
Final score 1-5
