Elias cup Final 2011/12

By

The come back kings do it again…

With the Dargie and Megan cup Trophy’s under our belt, LLan were ready for the hat-trick with the Elias cup in the final against Llanfair Reserves. Again, Llan weren’t the quickest to start and with the quickness of the Llanfair youngsters they were soon a goal down (8). Llanfair were closing LLan quickly not giving them time on the ball for the first twenty minutes and things got worse seventeen minutes later when Llanfair scored another (25). We all knew the comeback kings of the moment would eventually score and it came in the thirty-eighth minute when Llanerchymedd were awarded a penalty and up stepped Liam (snoopy) Fallows coolly netting the ball finishing the half, with a deservedly 2-1 lead for Llanfair. Second half started a bit better when LLan started to pass the ball and soon levelled the match when a cross from the right ended up at the feet of Karl Ashworth who slid the ball home (62).
Both teams were apprehensive of going forward in case they left a gap at the back and first to pounce was the Llanfair youngsters who scored with only ten minutes left on the clock (80). Thinking the match was theirs Llanfair relaxed and it was LLan’s turn to pounce when another cracking cross came in from the right to meet the head of Daniel Thomas who guided the ball into the net levelling the score again (84) making the last few minutes very tense. The whistle blew to take the match into extra time, it didn’t take long for some one to score, wonder who? Yes it was! Andrew Bailey. With his never say die attitude, Bailey, defender and goalie went for the ball, when it bounced clear, Andrew was first to it and with a flick of his boot scores (94) to make it 4-3 to LLanerchymedd. Second half of extra time Llanfair were pressing for the equaliser leaving gaps in defence with only minutes of the restart the ball landed at the feet of Deion Backhouse who showed his ability and coolness in front of goal banged the ball from the edge of the box through a couple of defenders into the back of the net giving LLan a 5-3 lead (107). Llanfair seemed deflated knowing that time was against them; the ref eventually blew his whistle to give LLan their third Cup of the season. With the Cemaes Points eventually awarded to LLan after their inability to raise a team for last Sunday’s match, LLan need a result to take them to the runners up slot in the league, second to deserved winners Morawelon who took the league by storm in their first season. What an amazing season LLan, on doing the treble and hopefully second in the league with our last match of this Long season against league leaders Morawelon 6:30 kick off Thursday 31st May.
