The u16’s travelled to Ongar for a friendly and ran out 31 - 14 winners on the day.
Datchworth started slowly and conceded an early try when the home team crashed over in the middle and had the better of the opening passages of play.
Then Datchworth started to play and following a good forward drive Dominic Negri found James Wilson to score his first try for the club.
Then Man of the Match Connor Harris finished off some fine phase play by taking the ball in open field and crashing over then adding the conversion to his own try to make the score 12 – 7 to Datchworth.
Again Connor Harris and Dominic Negri combined in open field to give Theo Wise a scoring pass in the corner to make the score 17 -7.
However Ongar came back and picked up a loose ball to score a simple try to get close to Datchworth. The game was closed out with Datchworth mixing up the play and carrying well from a penalty awarded close to the line a quick ball was passed out and Maxwell Imina went over and James Hunter added the extras ,then with time running out the Champagne Moment came when Datchworth gained possession deep in their own half & James Wilson got the ball close to touch and raced clear then cutting inside twice to beat covering defenders before dotting down under the posts, Hunter again converted to finish the game 31 -14.
