Denbigh suffered their heaviest defeat in many a season as they came up against a formidable Caernarfon team.

Caernarfon Town 7-0 Denbigh Town
Straight from the kick off Caernarfon attacked with Denbigh’s keeper Hill-Dunt, having to scramble the ball away for a corner. From the corner Caernarfon had the ball in the net but this disallowed for offside
The Cofi’s continued to apply early pressure on the Denbigh goal. The pressure lead to Caernarfon’s first goal on 13 minutes as they made swift progress down the left wing and a crisp pass found Gareth Evans in space to fire home from close range.
On 19 minutes as Caernarfon were on the edge of Denbigh’s penalty area a foul on Caernarfon’s striker saw the referee point to the penalty spot and Nathan Craig coolly slotted the ball in to the net for the second goal.
Denbigh did then get into the game more as they looked to bring back the deficit, but the final passes were broken down by the strong Caernarfon defence.

Just as Denbigh were getting more of a foothold on the game a defensive lapse saw Cofi striker Joe Williams snatch the ball and lay on Gareth Evans for his second goal on 34 minutes.
Denbigh needed to get to half time and regroup without letting in another goal, but on 40 minutes as their defence failed to cut out a cross Hill-Dunt saved well only for Danny Brockwell to pick up the rebound and make the score 4-0 at half time.
Manager Eddie Maurice-Jones saw changes had to be made as Sean James replaced Jack Riley. James had impressed by scoring two goals for the Reserves the night before and his commitment for the local cause was evident from his start as he linked well with Alan Bull and Matty Cook. Just as Town were about to make their second substitution on 52 minutes Caernarfon got their fifth with Chris Williams when he latched onto a cross. Joel Darlington was given his Denbigh debut as he was introduced for Nathan Williams and the Llangynhafal Summer League striker showed plenty of potential in the periods he had the ball.
Denbigh had their best spell of the game now as Matt Cook had two close attempts on goal and Alan Bull forced a good save from the Caernarfon keeper. Josh Davies constantly harried the Caernarfon defenders, whilst Gareth Partridge and Jake Eyre ran tirelessly all afternoon. Young Lewys Turner replaced Alan Bull with ten minutes remaining.

However chasing the ball for long periods of time was bound to have an effect on the whole team and on 71 minutes Danny Brockwell claimed his second goal followed by Darren Thomas making it seven on 79 minutes.
A most disappointing afternoon for Denbigh, who were comprehensively beaten by a Caernarfon team that had a lot of quality in their ranks and who will be a force to be reckoned with as the season progresses over the next few months.
It is still early in the season, and several key players were unavailable today through suspension and injury. However Denbigh manager Eddie Maurice-Jones is more than aware that he now has to look to strengthen his squad in order for Denbigh to get their season back on track
