Quilter Kids First Champions winner – December: Old Hales RFC

By Pitch Hero

Rugby legend David ‘Flats’ Flatman and Red Roses star Danielle ‘Nolli’ Waterman got into the Christmas spirit in Worcestershire when they visited our December Quilter Kids First Champion, Old Hales RFC.

Old Hales RFC won for creating a great rugby environment, something that really stood out when Nolli and an initially rather grumpy Flats visited. By thinking outside the box and creating innovative and engaging coaching games, the club has clearly got the kids enjoying themselves, whilst picking up important rugby skills. What also stood out was the huge success Old Hales have had in getting more girls playing the game. They started with only three girls and now, in their third season, they have 55 girls, who are enjoying themselves just as much as the boys. As one girl put it: “I’m cold, I’m muddy and I don’t care!”.

To be in with the chance of your rugby club or school becoming a Quilter Kids First Champion, visit the England Rugby website, select ‘Nominate’ and complete the entry form. All winners will receive a visit from former England Rugby star Ugo Monye and another rugby legend; AND will be invited to attend an amazing training day at Twickenham Stadium.
