Arch rivals do battle

By

First run out for the boys this year and after a long lay off due to bad weather 14 made the trip to our old friends at North Walsham. These encounter

Diss 20 North Walsham 10

As has always been the norm Diss began slowly and were soon a try down. This seemed to wake them up and parity was soon achieved as Alex Leeder went over after some intelligent rugby from the backs. Walsham scored again shortly after and this seemed to strengthen Diss resolve even more and a strong move from the forwards saw Rory Carter surge over to even the scores shortly before the half time whistle.
The second half started as the first finished with Diss in full control. Tom Storey caught the ball from kickoff and made significant ground into Walsham territory. The forwards took over and a series of strong rucks allowed Angus McDaniel to force his way over to give Diss the lead for the first time. It was more of the same from the resulting kick off as Diss collected the ball and pinned Walsham back in their own half. Pressure from Diss forced a mistake by the Walsham defence and Campbell Young managed to gather the ball and cross the line. This was the final score of the match and Diss certainly deserved their win against a dogged and much larger side.
It was such a good team effort, it is difficult to pick out players for individual praise, however special mention should go to Rory Carter, Oscar Seaman and Dan Baxter all who performed heroics beyond the call of duty.
The enthusiasm shown by Diss bodes well for when the boys make the quantum leap to the full 15 aside game later this year.
