Dulwich Hamlet 2-1 Tonbridge Angels

By Liam Hickey

A blistering opening ten minutes containing 2 goals from Dipo Akinyemi ultimately won the match for The Hamlet.

Dulwich were without the injured Ashley Carew which led toa recall to the starting line-up for Mitchell Nelson with Jordan Hibbert moving to midfield.

The Hamlet were ahead in the 3rd minute when Roman Michael-Percil ran at the visitors defence. His run took him into the penalty area where he then showed composure as he set up the unmarked Dipo Akinyemi to fire home.

Dulwich doubled their lead just seven minutes later. Nyren Clunis accelerated past his marker and delivered a cross to the far post. Akinyemi's header was brilliantly saved by Di Bernardo but the ball popped up and Akinyemi nodded the ball into the empty net.

Clunis was causing The Angels problems each time he touched the ball and he finished another direct run with a shot that was too high.

Gradually Tonbridge came into the game and Parter made a marauding run from left back that took him into the Dulwich penalty area and, when the ball was scrambled clear by the Dulwich defence, the opposite full back Foulkes was brought down on the edge of the box. However, Allen's free kick was comfortably saved by Preston Edwards.

Just past the half hour a good run along the Dulwich right saw Wheeler easily hold off Mitchell Nelson but Edwards was out quickly to thwart his near post effort.

A Kevin James free kick caused some confusion in the visitors defence but they eventually cleared it behind for a corner whilst, for Dulwich, Preston Edwards had to tip an effort over right on half time.

Half Time 2-0

Dulwich were pushed back early in the second half but Tonbridge were unable to fashion any clear chances and, in fact, Dulwich who went closest to a goal, Akinyemi released Clunis whose effort was well saved by Di Bernardo and Akinyemi just couldn't reach the loose ball.

Tonbridge almost pulled a goal vacancies in the 66th minute as a cross was met by Elder but his header crashed out off the frame of the goal. The follow up effort from Webster was then we'll saved by Edwards.

With 20 minutes remaining Tonbridge pulled a goal back. Good interplay on their right saw a pass slipped in behind the defence to allow Luke Allen to finish emphatically.

Dulwich were next to create a chance as Akinyemi got away on the left and rolled so pass to Clunis, his low effort bringing a terrific save from Di Bernardo low to his right.

Tonbridge kept the pressure on Dulwich but, other than a header from Elder that drifted wide, the Dulwich defence didn't allow them any clear sights of goal as The Hamlet claimed a valuable 3 points.
