East Thurrock Utd 3-1 Dulwich Hamlet

By Liam Hickey

The inability to defend set plays, or master the conditions, meant that The Hamlet will spend another season in the Ryman League.

Roared on by near to 1000 fans, Dulwich were unable to cope with the set plays of the home side.

With the wind at their back, East Thurrock forced Dulwich back and they took a number of opportunities to hurl the ball into the box. This pressure told as they took ano 11th minute lead, A corner from the Dulwich left by George Craddock going straight in on the wind.

If that wasn't bad enough a Ben Wood corner, this time from the other side, saw Rickie Hayles head home to double the lead with only 19 minutes played.

The same combination saw the home side go three goals in front after 35 minutes as Dulwich failed to cope with the accuracy of the set plays.

Dulwich got a foothold in the game in the 37th minute when Roman Michael-Percil was brought down in the box. Ashley Carew's spot kick was saved by Lidakevicius diving to his left but Jordan Hibbert volleyed home the rebound do via the underside of the bar.

The Hamlet should have had a second one spot kick three minutes later as Nyren Clunis was bundled over from behind but the referee was unmoved.

Half Time 3-1

With the wind in their favour in the second one half, Dulwich pushed forward but really struggled to create any clear chances. Akinyemi had a shot blocked as Dulwich mounted concerted pressure around the hour. Matt Drage had a header turned behind and thenot Mitchell Nelson had a goal bound header clearly handled by Craddock just in front of the line. To the disbelief of players and the massed ranks of fans behind the goal, the referee did not agree.

Ryan Moss came on and he missed two good headed chances that would have set up a grand finale. However, there was to be no way back and the home side deservedly took their place in National League South next season.
