Hamlet Secure First Away Win

The Hamlet secured their first Vanarama National League South away win with goals from Dipo Akinyemi and Nyren Clunis.

Dulwich recovered from going behind just 25 seconds into the second half to take all three points from their visit to Arbour Park.

It was the home team that opened brighter with Lee Togwell, James Dobson and Louie Soares all having efforts off target in the opening 10 minutes, with The Hamlet struggling to get a foothold in the game as Walter Figueira struggling to hold the ball up front. The only effort being an Anthony Cook effort that flashed across the box.

The huge throw ins of Guy Hollis also unsettled The Hamlet defence but Ben Harris put a 21st minute header over the bar when it sailed to him at the far post. Perry Coles put a free header straight into the arms of Preston Edwards after a fine cross by Soares and the Dulwich keeper brilliantly saved an effort from Dobson, tipping it over for a corner at full stretch.

The first chance for The Hamlet did not arrive until the 34th minute. Dominic Vose lofted a pass into the path of Nyren Clunis but home keeper Jack Turner blocked with his fee,t and immediately the ball was transferred to the other end where Dobson was again off target with his effort.

As half time approached Edwards made a routine save from a Harris effort and was out quickly to thwart Dobson.

Dulwich were then caught cold just 25 seconds into the second half as a ball over the top saw Soares run through unchallenged and give the home side the lead with an effort across Edwards into the far corner.

However, Dulwich played themselves back into the game and it took a superb full length save from Turner to keep out a 54th minute effort from Anthony Cook before they drew level in the 56th minute. Anthony Cook delivered a great cross that Dipo Akinyemi headed powerfully past Turner from six yards out.

A slip from Quade Taylor allowed Dobson in on goal, but his ball in was held by Preston Edwards. On teh hour the home side thought they had regained the lead, but Coles was flagged offside before putting the ball in the net.

The Hamlet then came within inches of taking the lead in the 63rd minute as a long ball released Dipo Akinyemi and his effort left Turner standing but crashed out off the post.

Back came Slough but Dobson had two efforts, one of which was wide and the other was partially blocked allowing Preston Edwards to gather comfortably. The Dulwich keeper then made a brilliant save from a header that looked destined for the top corner and tipped another Dobson effort wide.

However, The Hamlet carried a real attacking threat through Akinyemi and he forced Turner into another save, as did Vose, before Dulwich took the lead with five minutes to play. Neat play opened up space for Ashley Carew and when his effort was blocked, it fell into the path of Nyren Clunis who thumped it home.

Despite pressure from Slough, The Hamlet easily repelled any attempts to get back into the game and the only alarm came when Simon Dunn had an effort blocked and his follow up comfortably saved.
