Eastbourne Rugby Club Volunteers Tackle the Emergency First Aid in Rugby Union Course at the Fortress.

This week saw the successful culmination of a rugby specific first aid course delivered by the RFU, ten coaches from across the minis and youth sections and two club officials. It was held over two full evenings at the club after candidates completed an in-depth online self-study module. Covering basic first aid techniques through to dealing with suspected spinal injuries, essential life support (CPR) and using AED’s (Automated External Defibrillators).

Under 14’s Coach, Mr. Abey Mahie was one of the candidates on the course starting with very little first aid knowledge came away advocating the course by saying
“A really useful and informative course which teaches you how to deal with the injuries players of all ages might suffer whilst playing rugby.”

John Males the under 11’s Coach summed up the success of all candidates becoming accredited first aiders by offering
“The course was worthwhile and gave the confidence to approach and deal with injuries on and off the pitch. Whilst we always deal with injuries it is great to know in the club that there is now a team that can help”

ERFC Rugby Development Officer Ash Wigman accentuates that “the club is placing a new focus on raising its already high standards to a new level, upskilling its volunteers not just to make the club safe but by developing coach knowledge. so that the current and new generation of players gain the best coaching the club can deliver.”

On behalf of all from the Club and members, well done to all candidates.
