Eccleshill United 6-0 Worsbrough Bridge Athletic

By

A decisive and dominant display saw the Eagles comfortably dispatch Worsbrough for their fourth victory on the bounce.

Matty Waller and Charlie Flaherty were at the heart of an impressive Eccleshill United performance that saw Sean Regan's side put six past Worsbrough Bridge Athletic in a performance that oozed confidence and quality.

Three goals in both halves were enough to ensure the Eagles dominated the game, but it was the performance on the pitch and the manner in which Eccleshill got the goals that highlighted how good Eccleshill's late season form has been, earning their fourth consecutive victory for the first time this season.

A controversial red card to the visiting goalkeeper certainly played an integral part in the game. This was a major turning point in the favour of Eccleshill, but Regan's squad ensured they did not drop in quality or efforts despite Worsbrough dropping to ten men.

It was clear from the first minute that Waller was ready for the game, showcasing his skillful feel to beat several men. But it would be the other winger, Flaherty who created the first real chance of the game; winning the ball and putting a low, teasing ball across the face of the goal, only a brilliant interception stopped Marcus Edwards gaining a tap in.

However, Eccleshill wouldn't have to wait long for their opening goal which came from a corner. Worsbrough managed to defend the initial ball well but failed to fully clear it as the ball dropped to Waller who put in an excellent cross for Matt Mathers to guide into the back of the net.

The Eagles quickly doubled their lead after a cleverly disguised through ball from Flaherty slipped in Edwards whose strike beat the keeper and was guided into the back of the net by a sliding defender for an own goal.

Another through ball saw a major turning point in the game as Edwards' pace was too much for the opposing defenders and led to confusion as the goalkeeper picked up the ball outside the area. Deeming it a decision that stopped a goalscoring chance, the shot-stopper was sent for an early shower in a harsh decision that certainly hurt the visitors.

Thankfully, the Eagles did not drop their work rate and a sensational strike from Waller flew into the top corner to round out an impressive opening 45 minutes.

Worsbrough came out for the second half re-organised and started the brighter of the two sides with Eccleshill's tempo dropping slightly. However, another world-class strike by Waller would quickly raise everyone's game as another assist from Flaherty allowed Waller to fire a sensational goal into the top corner on the volley.

The midfield duo of Anil Singh and Liam Hudson continued to work hard, providing a box to box work rate whilst Jonny Irving continued to impress since returning to full fitness in the central attacking midfield role.

Eccleshill's fourth goal came through another corner, rather directly as Waller completed his hattrick from the corner as the ball missed everyone and found its way into the back of the net.

A driving run from Scott Manning set Irving up whose strike was well saved, ultimately falling to Ethan Labad who set up Flaherty to score another excellent goal as his strike curled into the top corner.

Opportunities were provided to Nick Truelove in the center of the park as well as a debuting Mahine Malik, who has been making an impact for the Under 21's side as the side saw out the game comfortably.

Another impressive performance from the Eagles who continue to go from strength to strength despite missing several key individuals, showing just how strong the squad currently is.
