Captain's Column

Northerners,

A strong finish to the league season has shifted us back up to 5th place. Although not mathematically certain, I’d hope other results go as expected to see us finish there. Thanks for all the efforts, particularly to those hardy souls who persisted with training through dark, wet and cold months. Our highest finish for many years is down to nothing else but that commitment.

The 2nd XV will compete in a mini, impromptu tournament with Inverleith 2s and Dunbar 2s at Arboretum Road on Saturday at 12.30pm. A great chance for our lads who’ve not seen a lot of game time recently. I’d encourage a good supporting crowd along as these are the same lads who support the 1st XV where possible.

Thanks to the good crowd of Northerners, WAGs and friends in the Anitquary on Sunday past to watch some 6 Nations. This week we’ll return to the Bunker on Saturday for back-to-back home nations fixtures where your bar convenor has a few special offers on. No doubt there’ll be a bunch along to the Antiquary on Sunday again.

You’ll find on the website a near complete fixture list for the remainder of the season. With Edinburgh Regional Bowl games, touring teams and sevens competitions we’re far from done with 2013-2014. The 1st XV team photo will be before the final competitive fixture of the season on 1st March. Please keep watch out for your inclusion in this where the top 22 appearances holders will be given first refusal for a spot in the photo.
