TWOS RULE THE ROOST AS LOCAL DERBY BECKONS

ENFIELD IGNATIANS IIs 39 HATFIELD 19

Nothing fazes the twos and, even granted the mixed bag nature of the side, the league leaders were in no mood to surrender their unbeaten record in Herts-Middlesex Merit Table Two judged on the their latest emphatic display in which Hatfield were put to the sword.

The hosts ran in six tries via Phil Tucker (two), Seyi Adeosun, Matt Pollard, George Cox and the promising young prospect Jack O’Toole. The latter, drafted in at fullback, also added a penalty and three conversions for good measure.

Granted some last minute changes, with Keir Bonnar having to drop out due to personal reasons, some surgery was required with Richard Carroll having to step-in at fly-half. Inevitably, the ring of unfamiliarity came into play, and particularly in the first ten minutes of the game, but once Ignatians were on an even keel they pulled clear and were 27-5 in front at break.

One of the prime catalysts for Ignatians’ success was joint MOM Lewis White, whose carries asked serious questions of the Hatfield defence. In many ways he lit the blue touch paper and set the tone.

Anzl Schwartz (pictured), the livewire young scrum-half, also flourished on the Donkey Lane stage. Making some telling breaks, which were punctuated by a few dummies, he laid-on two tries for Phil Tucker and consequently shares the MOM award.

Sticking to a simple script which reflected the nature of their resources, and granted Hatfield’s propensity for conceding penalties, Ignatians turned up the heat via their strong setpiece and the quality of their lineout.

Seyi Adeosun underscored his reputation as a prolific try scorer in this game, and George Cox, paired in the centre with Phil Tucker, also took his chance well by stepping his man.

Prop Matt Pollard, after returning from overseas, will also feel a lot chipper after going over. He should also strip fitter now that he has game time under his belt.

The growing in confidence Jack O’Toole also took his try scoring chance well. He added to his repertoire by having his kicking boots on.

Euan Renny and Nathaniel featured as did Dave Waadd who made some good tackles. Josh Doyle-Tanner and Lucas Yoxall covered the wing positions.A forward by trade, Lucas certainly impressed with some crunching tackles.”

The twos are next in action on Saturday when they make the short haul trip to Bramley Road [December 8th} where the small matter of a
local Derby against Saracens Amateurs IIs awaits.
