Arbroath United beat Falkland by 4 wkts

Falkland's 2017 season got off to a bad start at a cold Lochlands on Saturday.

Stuart Campbell won the toss and batted. The scoring was slow on a firm and dry pitch, but useful contributions from Aaron Paul and Matt Surry (33 each) put Falkland into a position of respectability at least with a score of 160, even though Paul suffered an injury which slowed him down. Credit must also be given to Scott Meikle and Alan Hamilton for valuable late runs.

Arbroath started brightly against some wayward Falkland bowling, and Brendan Ford and Ross McLean put on 54 for the first wicket, but then Aaron Paul struck, taking all 6 wickets that fell. At 121 for 6 what had looked like an unlikely victory now began to seem vaguely possible, but unfortunately Aaron could only bowl 10 Overs, and Calvin Burnett and Craig Cameron hit the runs with loads of Overs to spare.

Aaron Paul was very impressive for Falkland, and with professional Harsha Cooray available from next week, we are hoping for better things in next week's derby against Glenrothes at Scroggie.
