Acton No Match For Mountain

By

Two goals from Marc Gunther, sandwiching goals from Sam Scott and Jack Aitken, see Flint Mountain claim an impressive win over Acton at the Northop Hall Pavilion

With last week's extra time win over Penyffordd ending a run of two straight defeats, Flint Mountain looked to use the game as a catalyst when they faced Acton at the Northop Hall Pavilion. Flint Mountain were able to give a debut to newly signed Colin Davies, whilst fellow new signing Joey Davies could only settle for a place on the bench.

Flint Mountain started this game just like last week and took the lead after only two minutes. Picking the ball up on the left, arc Gunther fired a speculative long range effort towards goal. The ball flew up high and looped over the stranded Acton goalkeeper and into the net. Both teams pressed for further goals in the first half, but both goalkeepers were able to prevent further goals.

At half time, Mikey Scott was replaced by Ryan Roberts, who moved into the Flint Mountain goal, with Karl Leighton moving into a more familiar defence spot. The second half started in much the way of the first, with Flint Mountain picking up a second goal, thanks to a thunderbolt from Sam Scott, whose effort flew into the top corner stanchion. A third goal quickly followed, with Jack Aitken continuing his impressive scoring run, breaking down the right before planting a shot past the Acton goalkeeper at his near post.

Acton were not done, and almost immediately, pulled a goal back. From their restart, they were able to get behind the Mountain defence and pull the ball back for their striker to score from close range. The action continued throughout the half, and with eight minutes remaining, Flint Mountain recovered their three goal lead. Jack Aitken got past the Acton defence down the right, before a square ball into the penalty area found Marc Gunther, who turned the ball into the bottom corner.

Acton made a final attempt to salvage something from the game, grabbing a late consolation, but Flint Mountain held on to record the win. Next up for Flint Mountain is a short trip down the coast road to Mostyn Dragons.
