A tale of 2 Frickley legends

On a cold & very wet night - i.e. a perfect football night - both sides went Tora Tora Tora, & happily for us Frickley were more Tora than Sheffield. Josh Nodder & Stevie H came back into the starting line up with Grant Allott taking up a spot on the bench.

At first it looked like the game that no-one wanted to win - we gave Sheffield 2 goals start & then Lee Moz opted to man mark Big Gav. Now that might have seemed a great idea at the planning meeting but it was to have repercussions for them in the game

Sheffield caught the Greens cold (& wet) & scored twice in the 1st 8 minutes which sort of took everyone in the ground by surprise. We got a bit of a foothold in the game straight after & it was Josh Nodder that got us back into the game with a cracking hit from 25 yards on 13 minutes. Then the foothold became a headlock, Gav & Stewy both went for the same whipped in free kick & it ended up in the keepers hands. Hopewell fed Gav who rolled the defence but hit his shot just over & then it was back to parity, good work out wide, ball into Stewy, his shot is parried but straight onto the foot of the Big Man & he scores his first on the night & his 94th of many nights.

HALF TIME - SHEFFIELD 2 FRICKLEY 2

Early chance for Josh Nodder, set up by Gav, but his shot curled over. Next up, Gav skins Moz to set up Haze who couldn't get his shot off & the defender cleared. Next goal was route 1, Sebba with a big clearance, Moz misjudged it by the small margin of a country mile, into the box & it's 3 defenders vs Gavin Allott, where do you put your money? Of course you do - 3-2 & the Big Man is on 95 for Les Bleus / Verts. Almost number 4 for the Greens shortly afterwards, Haze sprays a cracking ball to Bloory who feeds Gav but he just got a sand iron under it & it went over.

Sheffield came back into the play a little & got an equaliser from a free kick.

Few changes as Grant Allott, Jack Burton & Chris Fairclough came on for Nicky Darker, Yatesy & Hopewell.

Yet another break into the box by the Big Man & the Sheffield defenders had tried fair means to stop him (& failed) so they went for foul means - penalty awarded by the liner as opposed to the ref. Keeper sent the wrong way, 4-3 on the night, Allotts hat trick & his 96th goal for the club. This was his 2nd hat trick of the season & his 10th for the club - no words.

No further action unless you count the Sheffield management trying to get everyone involved in handbags.

Not our most fluent display, but as my dad used to say "look at the result in the Green 'Un" - other green sports paper probably aren't available

WEBMASTER MOTM - Hopewell & Haze were a threat all night, defence were tidy once the team got itself settled but our 2 stand out players were Gav (obvs) & Nodder. I wanted to give it to Nodder as it was his goal that got us rolling but I got argued down by the rest of the meedja team (yes, we're a democracy!) & the Glitterball goes to Gav. PLUS minus 1 Glitterball for Teddy Bloor who we spotted wearing some rascal flip flops after the game - it's September & it was tipping it down!!

215 through the gate with a large number from South Elmsall - thanks for your support - including our 2 cameramen extraordinaire, Onion Bag & Dribbling Code. It is Onion Bags photo album accompanying this report but I'll be posting Tims shortly

Next up we're at home to Gresley on Saturday - hopefully see you all there
