League leaders turn game with 7 minute attacking spree

Frimley Green travelled to league leaders Worcester Park looking to compete in what was always going to be a difficult fixture. Worcester Park have been flying with only last weeks loss to Sheerwater only their 2nd loss of the season.

Frimley Welcomed back Matt Kellet-Smith into the defence and a debut was handed to new signing Aaron McCallum.

The game kicked off with incredible tempo, Worcester Park having a good handful of chances which could and should have given them the lead, however Frimley waived the storm and began to get a foothold on the first half, some nice passing, patient play created some Frimley chances of their own.

The first goal came for Frimley when a great freekick delivery found Zac Horkan deep at the back post, he guided his header back towards the far post and Dan Bone was at hand to nod it home.

Frimley doubled their lead with a break on the right, the ball played into James Mepham who chested the ball down and let rip with a great volley into the left hand corner.

After the opening exchange to be 2 up was a great effort but we knew the second half would bring a tough 45 minutes.
goal...
The second half followed the first, however Frimley opened up a 3 goal lead with Dan Bone slotting home after being put through 1-1. Game Over...........Not quite!

In no less than 7 minutes, the score was 3-3, WP went into attack overdrive, spreading the ball wide and as soon as they had a chance the ball was in the box, wave after wave of crosses just couldn't be dealt with . Including a pen with Jim Ward unfortunate to get caught up with an attacker getting at a cross.

3-3, Frimley then had their own chance to go ahead once more, Mepham found himself 1 on 1, he lobbed the onrushing keeper, that's it
goal! not quite, the ball bounced and went over the bar..... frustrating!.

WP then took the lead, a deep corner created problems again for the backline and it was slotted home.

Frimley almost levelled, with Scott Sanders through, he poked the ball around the keeper and it looked destined for the bottom corner, but it went inches wide.

4-3 it finished to WP. They showed their title credentials with their never say die attitude and we wish them all the best with their season, For Frimley, to go and score 3 away to the runaway leaders was an amazing effort. As frustrating as ending up the losing end of the game, it showed signs of how close we are to potentially having a promotion challenging side, maybe not for this campaign but for next, Lots of positives and lots to learn for the players and management team.

Up next we welcome AC London to The Rec, Saturday 20th January 3pm
