Fullerians U17's march on to Divisional semi final

By Clyve Hancock

Fullers U17's gained a 32 - 17 victory over Cambridge on Sunday to move into a home London & South East semi final against Westcliff on the 10th March

A five try performance by Fullers was enough to gain a 32 - 17 victory against a Cambridge team who hadn't been beaten for three years!!

Fullers rushed into a 15 - 0 lead with a penalty by Craig Duncan, followed by tries from referee/winger George Selwood and Myles Finnegan which was converted by Craig Duncan.

However,a period of complancy set into the team and Cambridge were able to gain a try from the ball being hacked through and no one dealing with the threat, they then scored a good try through a break by the centre which created quick ball which was recycled quickly enabling the try to be scored wide on the right to bring the score to 15 - 10,

Fullers now took the game to Cambridge with good drives by the forwards putting Cambridge on the back foot which meant they were penalised for slowing the ball down, this resulted in a series of penalties for Fullers and Jake Howard was able to drive over the line for a try which was converted by Craig Duncan on the stroke of half time to leave the score 22 - 10

Fullers kept the pressure on in the second half, however, they were guilty of the player with the ball getting isolated which led Cambridge to clear their lines. Fullers were also able to make full use of their bench to keep the pressure on the Cambridge team. Good interlinking from the forwards and backs created space for Craig Duncan to score the next try for Fullers to take a 27 - 10 lead.

Whilst Fullers kept the pressure on Cambridge they weren't able to push their advantage home, with the last pass not going to hand, or the ball being turned over in a scoring position. This led to Cambridge being able to break out of defence and apply pressure to Fullers and after a sustained period of pressure they were able to score and convert close to the posts to make the score 27 - 17.

However, Fullerians were able to have the last word with good driving rugby from the forwards creating holes in the Cambridge defence, Craig Duncan was able to break through to score his second try of the match and make the final score 32 - 17
