Don't let the scoreline fool you - this was a very tight game indeed and one in which the Garforth boys dominated for about two thirds of the game. The opening exchanges were firmly won by Hyde. Garforth looked reticent - perhaps they were intimidated in the knowledge that Hyde won this league last season! The boys defended too deep allowing the constant barrage of Hyde 30 yard diagonals and through balls to penetrate through the lines. 4 corners conceded as a result in the first 15 minutes looked ominous and it came as no surprise when the Hyde number 5, who looks a good prospect and was their man of the match in my opinion, put Hyde into the lead on 15 minutes with a free header from Hyde's fifth corner of the match. Garforth reacted to the goal like a boxer who had taken a firm blow to the chin - it motivated them to take control of the game. For the next 60 minutes Garforth pressed high resulting in Hyde having to play 50 - 60 yard diagonals and through balls to little effect. Garforth played their normal short passing game and carved out 6 or 7 good chances - Monkham (2), Gibriill - Keating, Cuttle, Allsop and Abdil all had great chances to force an equalizer. The game reverted back to Hyde having the impetus when injuries to strikers Monkham and Gibrill - Keating meant a reshuffle of the Garforth troops. 3 Garforth substitutions were made and before the 3 had had chance to get used to the high tempo of the game Hyde struck - 2-0 to Hyde on 80 minutes. Hyde continued to take the game to Garforth and scored a late 3rd. Well done to the Garforth youngsters - on this showing if the slow starts are cut out surely more league points are around the corner.
