Garforth Town Goal Scorers : Monkham and Robertshaw
Garforth Town Man of Match: Fletcher/Coulthard
Another good performance by the Town youngsters but Garforth continued their recent trend of being the best side but letting the points slip. This was a good tight technical game. Garforth created 6 full goal scoring chances, 4 from open play, and Tadcaster created just the 4 full goal scoring chances, 3 of which were from set pieces. Possession of the ball was approximately 60% to Garforth.'Schoolboy defending' for two of Tadcaster's goals vastly contributed towards Garforth losing the game. Tadcaster opened the scoring on 20 minutes with a direct free kick from 30 yards. The Garforth wall didn't do its job - players in the wall moved allowing the shot through - a real school boy error - Garforth keeper Booth pushed the ball onto the crossbar but the Tadcaster players followed it in quicker than the Garforth players and the ball was headed into the net from close range. Garforth then had 3 high quality chances. Fletcher twice played Monkham in - behind with exquisite 30 yard passes but both were well saved by the Tadcaster keeper. One of them squirmed under his body but was cleared off the line by a defender. Coulthard then picked out the unmarked McMurrough in the 6 yard box with a smashing long pass but McMurrough volleyed his effort over the bar. Tadcaster doubled their lead late in the first half with a good quality goal that sent a signal to the Garforth boys the quality the opposition possessed and the importance of keeping them on a tight leash. Tadcaster picked up a loose ball on the half way line. A short pass, a set and a beautifully weighted pass played the dangerous number 9 in behind. Devlin did well to get across and take the pace off number 9's shot but the ball took a wicked spin out of keeper Booth's reach. 2-0 to the Albion at half time. The young miners started the second half as though they had been been given horlicks at half time rather than the traditional oranges and were 3-0 down after 8 seconds! Tadcaster took the kick off and then the Garforth players stood and watched as the Tadcaster number 9 raced past them all to get on the end of a 45 yard pass and slide the ball in at the near post. Another 'schoolboy error' from the Town team. Garforth pulled one back on 55 minutes when Reynolds delivered a dangerous cross from a short corner. The ball was headed out by the Tadcaster defender to Robertshaw who smashed it into the roof of the net from about 8 yards for a good finish. The game burst back into action on 68 minutes when the Town scored a second goal. Another short corner routine saw McMurrough pick out the unmarked Monkham who volleyed the ball into the net from 4 or 5 yards. The last 20 minutes saw Garforth increasingly pushing resources forward in search of an equaliser but Tadcaster did well to hold firm under considerable pressure. 3-2 at the final whistle. A good contest - well done to both sides.
