A brace from Mark Simpson and a goal from Calum Ward helped The Miners to a 3-2 win over a battling Worksop in a scrappy and injury-strewn afternoon.

The first big chance of the game fell to Mark Simpson when his drive from a narrow angle was beaten away from goal by Worksop keeper Callum Fielding. Tigers captain Mitch Husbands came close on ten minutes when he found space in the box and put a low shot narrowly wide. Fielding was the first of a number of players to receive treatment after he and Daniel Coupland challenged for an aerial ball just inside the box, but was okay to continue. On 14 mins The Miners opened the scoring when a flowing move ended in Coupland supplying Simpson to fire low across Fielding and into the net. A Lee Turner header was held by Fielding on 23 mins, before James Beaston's cross found Jack McMurrough in space just inside the box but could only lash wide. Despite the chances, the visitors drew level on 26 minutes. From James Milner's corner kick, the ball was worked to Conor Higginson who beat Weatherill with a low shot to his near post. There was more bad news for Weatherill who looked to have made contact with the post when diving to his right and was forced to leave the field with a dislocated shoulder. It's hard not to feel sorry for Town's loyal second-choice stopper who impressed at Maltby on Wednesday, let's hope for a swift return. Meanwhile substitute Peter Lawrie dusted off his jersey and gloves to replace him.

The Miners retook the lead on 34 mins, although opinion remains divided on who scored it. A cross from the right was headed down by Calum Ward and turned in at close range by either Simpson or defender Alex Boyd. Town came close to making it three shortly before the break when Simpson's shot from Kitson's delivery was turned around the post, the referee bizarrely over-ruling his linesman and awarding a goal kick. Moments later our visitors were forced into a change of their own when Milner went down injured after being clobbered in the face by the boot of Beaston when stooping to head the ball on the edge of the box. Despite receiving treatment the midfielder was reportedly taken straight to hospital, hopefully he'll back playing again soon.

It was 3-1 on 52 mins when a ball forward saw Worksop fail to clear the lines, allowing Ward to bundle home from close range. Substitute Will Sutton had an effort held by Lawrie after ghosting past McMurrough on the left, before a dangerous move saw Higginson's powerful effort sting Lawrie's palms when played in by Matthew Templeton. Ward was then denied a second goal by a good stop from Fielding when set up by Simpson. The Tigers stopper was there again to deny an audacious overhead kick by Coupland who got on the end of Hamilton's corner. Deep into injury time The Tigers made for a nervous end to the game when Luke Mccrum headed into his own net after Sutton's cross was headed on by captain Mitch Husbands. In the end though it proved to be too late for the Nottinghamshire side and Town were able to celebrate a first ever league double over the visitors.

A different sort of win to Wednesday's heroics, but Town's quality in front of goal proved the difference and we climb to ninth in the table. Seven out of eight games unbeaten now for Rob Hunter's side as we head into four straight away games. First up is a visit to Kirklington Road next Saturday to play Rainworth MW (kick-off 3pm).
