Garforth Town 1-6 Hemsworth Miners Welfare

Garforth suffered their heaviest defeat of the season as Hemsworth Miners Welfare ran out 6-1 winners at the Bannister Prentice Community Stadium (by Samuel Bannister)

Hemsworth winger Bradley Dockerty scored a remarkable four goals, while ex-Town midfielder Sam Jones weighed in with a brace, as Garforth conceded more than five goals in a game for the third time this season.

The visitors took the lead in the 20th minute, as Dockerty headed home after a cross from the right wing. Garforth keeper Toby Wells was being kept busy, having to save with his feet from striker Seon Ripley, having already kept out a long shot from captain Jason Yates.

A rare break forward for Garforth 10 minutes before the break saw Mitch Hamilton play the ball wide to Niah Payne, whose left-footed shot was saved.

Town were forced into a first-half substitution when Mark Ferguson was replaced by Mark Simpson due to injury.

Town gave away a penalty five minutes before half-time, when Declan Greene brought down an attacker. For once, Wells didn’t save the resulting spot kick, as Jones slotted home to the keeper’s left.

Garforth had to make another sub at half-time, with Conor Hicken replacing the injured Michael Thompson. However, Hicken was booked as soon as the ball went out of play after the restart, as the officials weren’t aware of the substitution.

Hemsworth made it 3-0 on 50 minutes, as Dockerty ran past Aiden Kearsley on the left wing, cutting inside before sliding the ball past Wells. Two minutes later it was 4-0, as Jones scored a screamer. The midfielder skipped past a few Garforth challenges before sending the ball flying into the top corner from distance with a spectacular curling effort.

On 58 minutes it was 5-0, with Dockerty completing his hat-trick. Instrumental in the move was former Garforth right-back Sam Leach, who dribbled forward with purpose and played the ball forward. Dockerty stayed calm to make Hemsworth the first team to put five past Garforth at home this season.

The next five-to-ten minutes saw a couple of brighter moments for Garforth on a difficult afternoon. Payne shot over from the edge of the box after finding space with a Maradona turn, and moments later, Hamilton pulled a goal back for Rob Hunter’s team with a nonchalant finish. The number 10 finished from the edge of the box with his weaker left foot, superbly placing the ball beyond Jordan Greaves’ reach.

However, Hemsworth restored their five-goal advantage on 75 minutes, as Wells’ clearance went straight to Dockerty. The winger reacted quickly and pulled off an exquisite lob from all of 40 yards, sending the ball over the backpedalling Wells’ head.

Garforth had one last chance to pull a goal back and restore some pride when Kearsley played a great ball to Simpson. The striker whipped the ball across goal for fellow attacking sub Dan Williams, but Greaves came out of his goal quickly to thwart the recent signing.

A bad day at the office for Garforth, who will look to bounce back next week with another home game, this time against Albion Sports.
