What a season for the Champions!

By Paul Hepworth

There can be no doubting that the 2015/16 season has been one of the most successful season in the history of Glapwell FC.

Last weekend's victory over Brodsworth Welfare secured the league title in some style as it was wrapped up with three games to spare after an incredible run of form that has seen many club records broken along the way.
The midweek humbling at Askern was only the third league defeat of the season, the previous one was way back in August after an incredible run of 21 league games unbeaten, even more incredibly 20 of them were won with only a goalless draw at Thorne.
A great amount of credit should go to all involved with the club, everyone behind the scenes who have worked tirelessly again to ensure that the season could be a success, and it has certainly been that!
The management team have again been brilliant, Jordan, John and, in the last few months, Higgy, have worked tirelessly to ensure that the season would have the ending that it did.
The whole squad of players deserve so much credit, though, they have been absolutely top class from the first whistle of the season through to the current time.
A side that is capable of scoring the amount of goals that this one currently can as well as keeping it tight at the back and not conceding many is always going to be successful and the current goal difference of +109 is certainly testamony to that.
In the 25 league games played so far, an incredible 141 league goals have been scored with the defence tally reading only a goal a game conceded, prior to Tuesday night, which is again by far the best record in the league.
Many club records have been broken this season, including the highest home and away league victories which were then blown out of the water even further by the incredible 23-1 victory over Welbeck in April.
As mentioned, most league goals have been scored this season than by any other Glapwell FC team and Josh Parfitt's current 40 goals are the most scored in a single season by a Glapwell FC player.
Between September and December, 10 straight league victories were recorded which also broke the previous record and the 21 games unbeaten in the league between the end of August and now is also a record by some margin.
This title success was the first time that Glapwell have won their respective league in 22 years stretching back to 1994 and is the first trophy of any kind since the Derbyshire Senior Cup success of 1998.
Back on the individual scene, Josh Parfitt and Daniel Russell have scored in nine consecutive appearances which is also a club record, beating the seven that James Whitfield managed back in 2014.
Josh Parfitt has also hit six hat-tricks this season, again more than any other player has managed previously and he also hit his 50th goal for the club in that win over Welbeck in April.
Quite a few appearance milestones have also been reached, Adam Barratt, Josh Parfitt and Jordan Jones have all made their 50th appearance for the club during the course of the season.
The century milestone has also been reached by three players, firstly by Ross Murcott, the current longest serving player in the squad, then by Adam Kimberley, which of course has come over two spells with the club, and most recently by goalkeeper Ryan Hopkins who has been a solid keeper at this level for the last three years.
So, all-in-all a great record this season that everyone connected with the club can be very rightly proud of, hopefully the last couple of games to this season can follow suit and ensure that we have a decent little margin between ourselves and the rest of the league come the end of it.
Obviously, we are unable to gain promotion this season due to ground grading issues, ie our current lack of floodlights, as a club this is extremely frustrating but we are doing everything possible to ensure that we can take the opportunity next season if it is given to us again.
