GNE started the game the stronger of the sides with Zeph Thomas worrying the Prescot defence when narrowly being called offside and having a shot bravely blocked by centre back Joe Herbert.
Glossop’s dominance in the early stages saw another chance fall to them, this time to Dale Johnson who met a bouncing ball at the back post with just the keeper to beat but he blazed over.
The Cables settled into the game and took over the possession and speed of play, heroic defending from Courtney Meppen-Walter and Goalkeeper Paul Phillips for GNE kept the scores at 0-0.
An unfortunate coming together for Glossop striker, Thomas, and a Prescot defender had the forward limping off the pitch and Glossop being forced into an early change bringing on Ben Deegan.
Determination from Callum Chippendale got him through the Prescot defence and in on goal with only the keeper to beat which he did, breaking the deadlock and putting GNE one goal up.
Prescot responded with shots from various players going in on Phillips’ goal which he was equal to. Dan Burn got the best chance to even things up when the ball fell to him eight yards out and he rattled the bar meaning Glossop went into half time winning at 1-0.
The second half was quiet until the final 15 minutes when substitute Tunde Owolabi, on for Callum Chippendale, ran onto a Jude Oyibo pass, rounded the goalkeeper and slotted into an open net.
80 minutes on the clock and a free kick to Prescot had Glossop defending well again, the ball fell to Lloyd Dean on the edge of the box who found a way past Phillips to give Prescot a chance of a comeback.
The pressure built up on the Glossop defence as Prescot pushed for a way back in. The ball went down the Prescot right for a pinpoint cross onto Dean’s head to bring the game level again.
The last minutes of the game had Prescot with their tales up and finishing one last chance when Jordan Wynne showed some smart skills in the box and smashed past Phillips from a tight angle to give the away side the lead and the win.
