Second Generation Gingerbread

By Andy Sutton

Grantham are pleased to announce the arrival of central defender Tom Ward from King's Lynn Town.

Ward (27) follows in his Dad's (Paul Ward) footsteps who made 112 appearances for the Gingerbreads during the period 1989-1994. Paul who was a non-nonsense central defender during the final season at London Road and it was during this time that Tom was born.

Tom began with his hometown club Sleaford Town, before spells with Boston United and Gainsborough Trinity. A 2013/14 loan spell with St Albans City, turned into a permanent move for the following season, before moving to St Neots Town where he spent 3 seasons. He joined King's Lynn Town midway through the 2016/17 season, scoring on his debut against Kettering Town. Ward played under Ian Culverhouse at The Walks, and was a member of their beaten play-off final side.

He isn't the first member of the Father-Son club at Grantham, he joins of course Nigel & Harry Vince who appeared for the club last season on-loan from Boston United. He joins the following members of the Father-Son GTFC collective:

Bob & Rob Norris
Tony & Alex Simmons
Phil & Dan Starbuck
Pete & Simon Down
Tom & Steve Beck
